River Yare The River Yare flows from Norwich through hilly and beautifully wooded banks, not unlike the upper Thames. In its lower reaches it passes through wonderful fens and marshes. Villages and towns on the River Yare include Bramerton, Brundall, Great Yarmouth, Reedham and the City of Norwich This is one of the most delightful places on the River Yare. There is a riverside pub - the Woods Ends, a common where there are public moorings and woods. Brundall is a busy commuter and holiday village which lies about six miles from Norwich. Golden sandy beaches, bright lights, entertainments and attractions for all the family are perhaps what makes GtYarmouth best known as a holiday resort. But it is also a town and port of great character and charm which you can discover if you go exploring. There are shops, museums, churches, the port and quay and the unique Yarmouth Rowas to see. The riverside at Reedham is one of the most pleasant spots to while away an afternoon. Sit and watch the boats or stroll along the river front. Reedham is an historic place. It used to be a port in ancient times. The Romans settled here and 400 years after the Romans, Edmund, King of East Anglia is said to have lived here. Reedham Ferry is the only river ferry still in operation on the Broads. Wherever you go in this ancient city there are buildings to marvel at, churches to visit, little cobbled streets to explore, shops and markets and museums. Norwich is one of the top 10 shopping centres in the UK. There has been a market in the centre of Norwich since Norman times. The brightly canopied stalls sell fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, clothes and a miscellany of other things. The market is open all year Monday to Saturday. |
