Cruising
through France.
Central
France
Burgundy
in can offer the
Canal du Nivernais, often described as the most beautiful canal in France
and, further south, the gently flowing River Saone.
In Champagne, the River Marne meanders past vineyard cloaked hills.
Chablis, Beaujolais and Champagne, three of the most famous and distinctive
wines in the world are to be found along the waterways, together with
a multitude of lesser known wines all waiting to be discovered.
The
towns and cities of the region are no less famous: Reims, Epernay, Meaux,
Dijon, Macon and Auxerre are all steeped in history and each worth visiting
in their own right. Alsace Lorraine, with its many cultural traditions,
makes a refreshing change, not only for its German influenced food and
wines, but also for its characteristic countryside and multitude of
lakes. It is also rich in history with Gallo-Roman remains, forts, cathedrals
and many monuments to man's engineering ingenuity.
West
Region
Anjou
is graced by three rivers: L'Oudon, La Mayenne and La Sarthe, all tributuaries
of the mighty river Loire. Each of these three has its own hidden secrets
and unique beauty as they drift through towns whose ancient facades
tumble down to the river's edge.
